Welcome
When you are fortunate enough to make your passion into your profession you never feel like you are working, you feel like you are living..and my passion is music!
My name is Jarrett Farrell. I'm a freelance arranger, composer, performer, researcher, and music educator. I live my dream of teaching and making music as the Band Director at LaGrange High School (Go Grangers!) in America's Greatest Little City; LaGrange, GA with my wife, daughter, two Siamese cats, a dog, and a horse.
I grew up in a mobile family and can call many places "home." I graduated from high school in Homewood, AL from Shades Valley-RLC an academic magnet school, while simultaneously attending W.A. Berry High School where I participated in Band and music programs. I attended Auburn University (War Eagle!) earning a B.Mus. in Music Theory & Composition (I was the last person to whom AU awarded that degree, it has since been split into two separate majors). I hold an M.Ed. in Music Education from Alabama A&M University (Go Bulldogs!) and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University (Go Terriers!).
My research speciality is designing and developing music education models for students on the Autism Spectrum.
As an arranger my pieces have been performed by major college marching bands, such as Auburn University and The University of Michigan, championship high school marching bands, concert bands, brass ensembles and even the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets. As a composer I have written works ranging from unaccompanied solos to bands to film orchestra.
When I'm not making music I am reading, swimming, cooking, or grave scraping (which means visiting obscure cemeteries all over the south, using shaving cream and a rubber squeegee to read the carvings and make photos of beautiful old tombstones) in pursuit of researching genealogy. Also, if you cannot guess from the shout-outs above, I am also a fan of the sports teams from my various Alma Maters!
